Get to Know More About the Battle of Spioenkop
on a MTB
Tucked into the side of a rocky hill, overlooking the Mfazimnyama valley of the Spioenkop Game Reserve, and surrounded by the site of a famous Anglo BoerWar battle, lies Three Tree Hill.
Spioenkop, together with Majuba, are arguably the best known of all the battles between the British and the Boers.
You will get to experience and learn more on your adventure, and of course, the historic and iconic Spioenkop mountain climb awaits you.
Our tour will take place over 3 days and 2 nights.
Three Trees is close the the base of Van Reenen’sPass, almost halfway between Johannesburg and Durban. It makes for an ideal self-drive getaway.
Based on a 3-day and 2-night tour, Day 1 will see guests arrive on the Friday around midday and enjoy a short 15km ride to attune to the environment, followed by a warm shower and sundowners.
We will then have a pre-brief, as well as a talk by a well-known historian who will set the scene for the weekend. This will be followed by a wonderful dinner and from there guests have the option of retiring to the unbelievable wine cellar for a special spoil.
Day 2, Saturday, will see riders head out to the Spioenkop Mountain Climb, and once summited, riders and their partners will learn more about the historic bloody battle that took place in January 1900.
It’s then back to the hotel for a relaxed afternoon and good company – Distance +-30km, followed by another stunning dinner.
Day 3 will be an early start where riders will do in the region of 25km around the battlefields region. After that riders will return to freshen up. Then join for brunch and then head off home.
SPECIAL NOTE: Your riding fitness will need to be slightly above average, but E-Bikes are welcome. Much of the ride is single track, so your technical skills need to be slightly above average.
